Hi there, love your blog!

I am planning to visit Langkawi and maybe even move there... do you have any advice?
Do you mind me asking a few questions?

I'm european and will have no visa issues, but can I have a residence visa with (a friend have a company in KL) one company and live and work in Langkawi without problems??
How is the general safety on the island?
Could I buy a chopper - motorcycle (Harley Davidson or a copy, Yamaha) on the Island or must it be imported from the mainland?

to have a residence visa you have to be working in Malaysia. i had an experience with that and it was not pleasant. when your company is applying for such a visa make sure that everything is in order and follow every step. bureaucracy is horrible in Malaysia. i hope you'll be more lucky than i am. anyway, if you don't get the work permit, you can do a visa-run to Satun, Thailand which is 2 hours by ferry from Langkawi every 3 months.

very safe, very calm. nothing to worry about :)

by chance you can find a good used bike in the island. there are companies which are lending monthly but they usually have scooters. honestly i don't remember any bile shops on the island ( i mean ones selling coppers). for Harley, you have to find it in KL. for Japanese brands and local brands you can try KL and Penang. When you get there, it won't be a problem for you to find help to get such a bike. Local people are quite friendly and every body speaks English.

i'll be happy to answer your other questions if you have any. good luck in Langkawi.
